The House that craft built
By the Editors
In 2009, above a Madison Avenue bookshop, two chairs and one conviction opened for business: that a haircut deserves the same editorial scrutiny as a magazine cover. Atelier No.8 has kept that conviction through every expansion, every award and every season since.
The house works the way a fashion issue is assembled. A consultation is a fitting. A color formula is a colorway. A finished blowout is a final proof, checked against the light before it leaves the floor. Eighteen artists contribute to the masthead today, each with a byline earned over years of training in Paris, London, Seoul and New York.
What has not changed is the editing. We decline more trends than we print. The work that makes it to the chair — the precision bob, the dimensional balayage, the glass-skin protocol — is the work we would put on the cover.
